After the bath
Hot water and soap strip away the lipid film that protects the skin. That is normal, it rebuilds itself, but on a baby the skin barrier is still immature and takes longer. Skin that comes out of the bath and is not nourished is the first step towards tightness, redness and dry patches.
The moment that matters comes right after. Within three minutes, while the skin is still warm, a hazelnut-sized amount of Baume Douceur warmed in the palm rebuilds the protective film and stops water from evaporating. On small dry, irritated areas, that is where it does the most work.
To go further, it all starts upstream: most cleansing gels contain sulfates, foaming agents that clean by dissolving oils, including the ones the skin needs. A sulfate-free gel, like ours, leaves the barrier intact. All the balm has to do is nourish, instead of making up for damage.
